The small ski resorts cost less to ski and much more to reach

Gudauri has fifteen lifts and about eighty kilometres of runs; Hatsvali above Mestia has three lifts and ten kilometres, and Goderdzi in Adjara has four lifts and eight. Day passes are broadly similar everywhere — the travel guide Wander-Lush puts them at an average 40 to 50 lari for adults and 25 for children, with Multiski season passes from 600 lari for winter. The difference is getting there: a minibus from Tbilisi to Gudauri runs 10 to 15 lari, while a private transfer to Mestia from Kutaisi starts at 440.

Size, in lifts and kilometres

Gudauri, with a base around 2,200 metres, runs fifteen lifts over more than twenty runs and about eighty kilometres of piste, and the guide gives its season as mid-December to mid-April. Bakuriani has eight lifts plus a funicular, twenty-three pistes and twenty-nine kilometres. Hatsvali above Mestia is a third the size of Bakuriani with three lifts, five runs and ten kilometres, with Tetnuldi roughly fifteen kilometres away as a second option on the same trip. Goderdzi, the smallest listed, has four lifts and four pistes over eight kilometres, and the longest season of the four, early December to the end of April.

The journey is the price difference

Gudauri is about two hours from Tbilisi, with a marshrutka from Didube at 10 to 15 lari and private transfers from 170. Bakuriani is a minibus from Didube at about 15 lari taking two and a half to three hours, or a transfer from 210 lari from Tbilisi and 200 from Kutaisi; the Kukushka narrow-gauge train is not currently running. Mestia is the outlier: a Vanilla Sky flight of about an hour costs around 100 lari one way and operates three times a week, weather permitting, while the road from Tbilisi takes more than nine hours and a transfer from Kutaisi starts at 440 lari. Goderdzi is a four-hour drive from Batumi in a four-wheel drive, with no direct winter bus — the options given are a bus to Danisparauli plus a taxi, or a bus to Khulo plus a free shuttle.

What this means if you sell trips

If lift passes are broadly the same price across the country, the product you are selling at a small resort is not the skiing, it is the access and the lack of queues. A Svaneti ski week is priced by the flight seat and the transfer, not the pass, which makes the weather-dependent three-flights-a-week schedule the single biggest operational risk in the itinerary and worth a written contingency for clients. One caution on the figures: this guide carries no visible update date beyond its 2026/27 framing, so treat the lari amounts as the right order of magnitude and confirm current pass prices and transfer rates with the resorts and operators before quoting them to a customer.
