The harvest-visit season closes this week — and here is what it cost

Rtveli is a ripeness window, not a date: Kakheti runs late August into October, Racha sometimes into November, and the longest 2026 programmes were selling days right up to 7 November. The published prices ranged from 220 to 410 GEL a head.

There is no date to book against

The most useful thing to tell a guest planning a harvest trip is that Rtveli is not a festival with a date. It is a season that moves with ripeness and weather, and the swing is wide enough to wreck a fixed itinerary: Kakheti processing began on 2 September in 2025 and on 13 August in 2024, three weeks apart. Kartli runs September into October, Imereti from late September, and Racha in October and sometimes into November. For Kakheti, the safest single week to commit to is the second half of September — not because the harvest is guaranteed then, but because it is the window least likely to miss it in either direction.

What was on sale, and at what price

The 2026 programmes give a usable price ladder. Eat This! Tours ran a Real Family Rtveli from 375 GEL with Tbilisi transfers between 22 August and 7 November, and an Every Day Rtveli from 410 GEL daily out of Telavi wineries over the same stretch. Rostomaant Marani in Telavi listed 350 GEL with shared and private dates through September and October. Weekend Travelers Georgia ran a single harvest day on 19 September at 220 GEL with transfers from Tbilisi, and Shilda village in Kvareli offered weekend programmes from 11 September to late October with prices on request. Tours out of Tbilisi on GetYourGuide, checked on 11 September 2026, ran from $122 for a twelve-hour harvest day with Sighnaghi and Bodbe stops, $406 for a family rtveli experience with pickup, and $39 for a standard Kakheti wine tour with nine tastings and no picking.

A working harvest is not the same product as a visitor day

There are two different things sold under the same word, and the gap between them is where complaints come from. A working family harvest is the authentic version: hard to book, not every household wants visitors, and usually reached through a tour operator or a guesthouse host. A winery visitor programme is a scheduled day of picking, crushing, lunch and tastings — easier to book, and not necessarily the winery's own working harvest. Neither is dishonest. But a guest who paid for the first and got the second will say so in a review, so the question to put to any supplier is which of the two it is, and what is included. Wineries that take guests on request include Berika, Schuchmann Wines Chateau, Chateau Mosmieri, Agarani Estate, Nekresi Estate and Giuaani in Manavi, with most bookings running through Facebook or WhatsApp.

Where to sleep and how to get out there

Telavi is the practical base, about an hour from most of the harvest wineries, and guesthouse rooms for two were listed from around 60 GEL for 25 September. Marshrutkas from Samgori metro in Tbilisi cost 12 to 15 GEL and take two to three hours. After that the wineries are in villages with thin local transport, so a rental car or a hired driver is what makes the day work — with the obvious caveat that the day involves wine, which is the main argument for a driver and for staying overnight rather than returning to Tbilisi late. Closed shoes, clothes you do not mind staining and a warm layer for the evening cover the rest. One fixed date worth noting for next year's planning: the Gurjaani Wine Festival was confirmed for Saturday 10 October 2026, with tastings from over 100 producers.
