Tbilisi against Istanbul: rent 42% cheaper, a cheap lunch slightly dearer, wages a long way behind

A one-bedroom flat in the centre comes out at around GEL 1,746 a month in Tbilisi against roughly GEL 2,557 in Istanbul — a difference of about 46% on that single line.

Not every line runs the same way. An inexpensive restaurant meal is listed at GEL 30 in Tbilisi against about GEL 26 in Istanbul, so casual eating out is marginally dearer here. Transport goes the other way, and hard: a monthly public transport pass is GEL 40 in Tbilisi against roughly GEL 175 in Istanbul. If you are budgeting a stay rather than a portfolio, those two lines will shape your month more than the rent index does.

Local purchasing power in Istanbul is put 48.1% above Tbilisi. That is the figure a landlord should sit with longest, because it describes what local tenants can actually pay.
