Monthly growth slowed from 8.6% in June to 6.3% in August

Georgia's estimated monthly GDP grew 6.3% year on year in August 2026, after 8.0% in July, 8.6% in June and 6.4% in May, on figures from the National Statistics Office compiled by Trading Economics. The economy is still expanding at a pace most of Europe would envy, but the summer peak has passed and three of the four most recent readings are below it. For anyone selling property, lending against it or planning a hotel here, the trend line matters more than any single month.

What a monthly estimate is and is not

Geostat publishes a rapid monthly estimate of real growth well before the quarterly national accounts are finalised, which is why the monthly series moves around more than the quarterly one. A drop from 8.6% to 6.3% over two months is therefore not necessarily a turning point; it can reflect base effects from a strong period a year earlier, the timing of a harvest or a large construction payment, or a later revision. The useful habit is to watch three or four readings together rather than reacting to the newest one, which is exactly what the sequence above allows.

Why a property owner should track it at all

Residential demand in Georgia is driven far more by incomes, employment and credit than by anything specific to housing, and all three follow the growth rate with a lag. Banks also look at the macro picture when they set lending standards, so a sustained slowdown tends to show up first as tighter mortgage conditions and only later as softer asking prices. None of that is visible in a single month at 6.3%, which is a strong number by any ordinary standard. It is the direction over the next two or three prints that would change how a seller prices or a developer phases a project.

Where to check it yourself

The underlying series is published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia, which releases the rapid estimate for each month and then the quarterly accounts that supersede it. Aggregators such as Trading Economics make the recent history easy to read in one place, but when a number is going into a business plan it is worth taking it from Geostat directly, where the methodology note and any revision to an earlier month are published alongside the figure.
