Georgia shipped 17.3 million litres of wine to 51 countries in one quarter — and Germany was the fastest grower

In the first quarter of 2026 Georgia exported 17.3 million litres of wine to 51 countries, generating 53.2 million dollars. That is 5% more wine by volume and 7% more by value than the same quarter of 2025. Alongside the wine, exports of other alcoholic beverages came to 7.6 million litres and 56.6 million dollars — a smaller volume earning slightly more money.

Germany was the standout: 375 thousand litres, up 32% on the year. China took 831 thousand litres, a 4% rise, and the United Kingdom 86 thousand litres, up 9%. These are modest volumes next to the headline total, and that is precisely why they are interesting — they show where the diversification is actually happening rather than where the bulk still goes.

Export growth in a market is a fair proxy for how many people there have heard of Georgian wine before they book a holiday. A German-language tasting sheet, a price list that quotes euros, and a shipping option that does not require the guest to carry bottles home are small changes that follow the direction of the trade data. The same logic points at the UK for English-language material. It costs little to test and the export numbers tell you where the audience is warming up.

One quarter is one quarter, and a 32% rise on a small base is easier than a 4% rise on a large one. The figures above are the National Wine Agency's own, published in April 2026, and they describe January to March — the quiet end of the year for visitors as well as for shipping. Read them as a direction of travel rather than a forecast, and check the agency's next release before building a season around any one market.
