Dashbashi Canyon rates 4.1 from 39 reviews — and almost every complaint is about the ticket price

The draw is a glass bridge strung across the gorge — reviewers describe a span of roughly 240 metres hanging some 280 metres above the canyon floor — plus a set of waterfalls reached on a trail of about 1.8 kilometres down from the visitor centre. The scenery gets consistently strong write-ups: green water, hanging vegetation, big views. There is also a zip-line style cycle across the gorge for people who want the adrenaline version. The site is roughly two hours from Tbilisi, give or take depending on traffic out of the city.

The recurring complaint in the reviews is the entrance fee, quoted between 49 and 79 GEL a head, with under-threes free. Reviewers repeatedly describe it as high by Georgian standards, and several report being quoted different amounts from other visitors on the same day, which does more damage to goodwill than the number itself. Extras add up too: a minibus back up from the waterfall area is around 8 GEL, and the zip-cycle around 120 GEL. For a family of four this is a canyon that can cost more than a decent dinner in Tbilisi.

Two practical grumbles come up often. The glass on the bridge is frequently described as dirty, which flattens the whole point of a glass bridge, and the visitor centre is criticised for not explaining clearly what the ticket includes or which trail goes where. The cafe is reported as thin — coffee and juice rather than a meal. Bring water and something to eat, and ask at the entrance exactly which activities your ticket covers before you walk down.

On the evidence of the reviews, yes if you want the bridge and the walk and you accept the ticket as the price of a managed attraction; less so if you came to Georgia for canyons that cost nothing. Purists in the reviews openly dislike the commercialisation of the gorge. For a host planning a guest's day, the honest framing is that this is a built visitor site with a fee, not a wild hike — and guests told that in advance tend to arrive happier.
