Borjomi-Kharagauli rates 4.7, and a shelter bed costs 30 lari

Wanderlog's page for the Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park administration shows a rating of 4.7 out of 5 from 553 Google reviews, with 442 of them five-star and 17 at two stars or below — an unusually lopsided distribution for a place that takes real effort to reach. The park's own tariff page, published by Georgia's Agency of Protected Areas, prices a campsite at 5 lari a person and most of its trail shelters at 30 lari a person a night. Registration at the Borjomi or Kharagauli visitor centre is compulsory before you walk.

What the reviews agree on

The recurring notes across the Google reviews are forest, marked trails, benches by the water and the absence of crowds. Taken together they describe a place whose appeal is not a single view you photograph and leave. That matters for how you plan: a visitor expecting one landmark at the end of a short walk is likely to be among the handful of low scores, while a visitor who came to spend a day walking in shade is in the large majority that rated it five. Small churches appear in the forest along some routes, which is the kind of detail that only shows up if you go far enough in.

The price list, in full

From the Agency of Protected Areas tariff page: a campsite is 5 lari a person; the shelters at Likani, Kvabiskhevi, Sametskvareo, Dedabera, Urema, Kvibisi, Didmaghali, Sakhvlari and Makhvilos are 30 lari a person a day; the Nedzvi reserve shelter and the Marelisi hotel are 25 lari. Kit is rented on site: a tent is 10 lari a day, a sleeping bag or a backpack 5, a foam mat 3, snowshoes 15 for the first day and 10 for each day after, a bicycle 35. A locker is 2 lari for twelve hours. Pupils and students pay less on several of these lines.

Registration is not a formality

The agency states that registering at a visitor centre is obligatory, and the same applies to the horse-riding routes. Information and the permit itself are free, so the only cost is the detour, and the centres are at 23 Meskheti Street in Borjomi and in Kharagauli on the other side of the park. The practical value of registering is that somebody knows which trail you are on and when you were expected back, which in a park of this size and with this little phone coverage is the difference between an inconvenience and an incident.

Why this is a two-day place

The shelter network is the clue. A park that prices beds along its trails is not designed around the day visitor, and the routes that the reviews describe most warmly are the long ones. For a tour operator building an itinerary, that makes Borjomi-Kharagauli a different product from a canyon or a cable car: it needs an overnight, it needs guests who want to walk, and it rewards being sold as two days rather than squeezed into an afternoon between Borjomi's mineral water park and the road back to Tbilisi. The reward for the operator is that almost nothing else on the standard circuit asks a guest to spend a night in a forest.
