On TripAdvisor's Batumi listings the Argo Cable Car leads with 4.6 out of 5 from more than 4,400 reviews. The Botanical Gardens and Batumi Boulevard also sit at 4.6, with roughly 2,400 and 2,000 reviews respectively. The Ali and Nino sculpture is at 4.5 and Piazza Square at 4.4. The Alphabetic Tower, the 130-metre structure that appears on most postcards of the city, rates 3.9 from over 950 reviews — the same score as the casino listed alongside it.

The highest-rated entries share a quality: they give a visitor something to do for an hour or more. A cable car is a ride and a view; the gardens are a long walk above the sea; the boulevard is an evening. A tower that is chiefly impressive from the outside gives a photograph and a short queue, and reviews reflect the difference between an experience and a stop.

The ethnographic museum Borjgalo, a couple of kilometres out of the centre, carries the highest score on the list at 4.9, from a much smaller base of around 260 reviews. Small numbers make a rating fragile, but a score that high from visitors who made the effort to get there is a reliable signal for guests who have already done the boulevard and want something quieter.

Guests judge a stay partly by the advice they were given. Recommending the cable car for a first afternoon, the gardens for a full morning and the boulevard for an evening is safer than sending people to the landmark they will photograph anyway.
